Disaster Management

Disaster Resilience

1. Weather tracking

One of the first steps towards Disaster Resilience is proactive monitoring. Our Research & Development team in collaboration with our sponsors have installed weather stations in Chennai both for education and resilience purposes. These Weather stations are monitored 24/7.

2. Sailing training infrastructure support

Our organisation supports other non-profit organisations like Royal Madras Yacht club and Tamil Nadu Sailing Association in its effort to make sailing a desirable hobby among children and young adults. We have taken specific efforts to bring international best practices in-terms of compliance on safety. Compliance on safety includes emergency communication on board, safety jackets, emergency food, solar power and other aspects.

3. Disaster resilience infrastructure support

Disaster resilience infrastructure refers to a combination of people and resources that can be deployed at the time of disaster. This includes a communication infrastructure and rescue infrastructure.

a. Communication infrastructure:

A ham radio operator usually carries on  experiments with various communication equipment and systems and at the same time provide great service to the people in general worldwide by way of organizing on-the-air emergency medical traffic, establishing emergency communication network during natural calamities like flood, cyclone, storm, earthquake or any other disaster. Amateur Radio stations act as the ‘SECOND LINE’ of communication when existing public or government communication links fail to act.

There has been major innovation in this field and we enable the operators and Ham Radio clubs with physical infrastructure – place, equipment’s to experiment and come together during time of emergencies.

b. Rescue infrastructure support

Rescue is needed for both land and water. And one of the most important infrastructures needed is transport and safety equipment’s. During floods regular passenger vehicles submerge in water and unsafe for the rescuer. This transportation include sturdy all-weather multi-utility vehicles with the ability to carry safety and rescue kits, first aid and the ability to transport from the point of distress to point of rescue.

Mantra is closely monitoring the research data and other developments on disaster management across the globe.
